President and CEO

Peter Istvanffy

BEd (Major) – University of Calgary
MBA (Diploma) – University of Calgary
Certificate (Non-Profit Management) – Harvard Extension School
Certificate (Strategy & Innovation) – MIT Sloan Executive Education

“I am driven by the unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of students with learning disabilities and their families.”

For more than 30 years, Peter has led and grown CA to where it is today. He’s been both a teacher and Principal, and now guides the organization as President and CEO. Peter has presented at education conferences around the world on learning disabilities, and is co-author of the book Exceptional Life Journeys. Peter is one of the founding international education consultants with our affiliate organization Headwater Learning Solutions (formerly Inlets). In his spare time, Peter is an active member in the Alberta education environment, and has volunteered for Alberta Education’s Setting the Direction Committee, and served as a Board Member for Woods Homes and the Calgary Achievement Centre for Youth. Peter is an avid traveler, and instead of collecting the usual postcards from the countries he visits, he journals and tries to document the scents and smells that make each country unique.

Principal, High School

Tim Carlson

BA (History, Literature)– University of Victoria
MA (Curriculum, Teaching and Learning ) – University of Calgary

“There is no greater joy as an educator than to see the evolution of a student’s growth from frustration and despair to confidence and success.”

When Tim first heard examples of how Calgary Academy always puts the needs of the student first, he knew he had to work here. Fourteen years later, he’s been a teacher, Academic Dean, and now high school Principal. He stays with our team because this is a place where families’ lives have been changed for the better because of what we do and how we help students succeed. When he’s not at CA, Tim can be found tying flies in the winter and putting them to use in rivers and streams around the Calgary area the rest of the year.
